Not once in the entire Old Testament was man ever ordered to offer himself to God as a living sacrifice.
Why?
Because no one was good enough. No one was ever entirely without blame or sin. No one (David, Abraham, Moses, Elisha, etc) ever performed enough to meet God’s standard.
Stop working harder to qualify. Just like David, Moses, Samson, and all the others, you will fail.
Under the new covenant, we are urged to;
“.. IN VIEW OF GOD’S MERCY, offer your bodies to God….”
Why?
Because now we are qualified to come close. Holiness, righteousness, and good works have now become a “reasonable act of worship”, not prerequisites to entering heaven. Righteous living has now become a natural corresponding act of faith, not self effort intended to ACHIEVE what is to be RECEIVED. Hey! This is good news (gospel)
